Based on the travels to my mother's hometown of Ardmore, OK, I Got A Home in That Rock uses this town as a backdrop and transforms the white cube into a domestic and spiritual space as a frame. The collapse of exterior and interior spaces allows for an in-depth display of the internality of Black American life where family relations, family history, personal identity, and spirituality intersect with issues of race, politics, and class. I will also examine a series of exhibitions of artists that deal with similar themes and frame the concept of home.
